He warned that transparency is simply not enough until it positively affects the standard of living of the people, saying, “countries with strong civil society groups tend to have less corruption, high integrity for the public good.”
NNPC said the requested information is in the nature of “commercial, financial and trade secrets information, which obviously are either subject to non-disclosure agreements or whose disclosure could reasonably interfere with NNPC’s existing contractual obligations or harm third parties’ interests.
According to him, “In fact, rather than wasting money, the Jonathan administration generated money for the federation from the sale of these assets which were seen to be transparent and followed global best practices.”
“It is instructive that this same old fable apparently intended to rubbish Jonathan’s name locally and internationally, is being recycled with more lies added to garnish the narrative, at a time the ex-President is making efforts to resolve the issues in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”
He added that it would provide urgent access and feedback to the public on NEITI’s operations in compliance with the provisions of the FOI Act, urging the public to use the FOI portal and the new website to avail themselves of information and data contained in the NEITI reports and other issues in the extractive sector.
