Mr. Alilu, who expressed surprise over the disappearance of the two suspects, apologised to the judge and urged that the matter be heard since the others were in court.

He regretted that the harsh economic situation in the country has pushed many people in illegal mining and exploration in the state thereby endangering their lives and those of members of the community where they operate.
“There are some foreign mining investors that are using illegal miners to get minerals without paying taxes, mining fees, royalties and they escape to their countries with raw minerals,” Shehu added.
“We have arrested 150 illegal miners in Jos South, Bassa, Barkin-Ladi and Wase Local Government Areas of the State. These miners are illegally armed, from our investigation, some of them are criminals and we had gun battle with must of them before their arrested.
A source close to the village told journalists yesterday that three of the victims were members of the same family who had been in the mining business for more than two decades, adding that the other four were hired from the neighbouring village to help them in excavations.
“Mining is a legal business; anybody who is interested in it should approach the appropriate authorities for license instead of doing it illegally. Illegal mining constitutes uncontrollable environmental hazards and we must guard against it,” he said.
