She said Nigerians who had sought haven abroad were in for a tough time as the Federal Government had commenced the sharing of information on Nigerians who owned property and bank accounts overseas.

“Nigeria has decided to do Automatic Exchange of Tax Information and use exchange of information to investigate cases and fight tax evasion. So the discussion today is how the global Forum can support Nigeria’s efforts in achieving the goals and in fighting tax evasion.”
Noting the progress by government in taxing those in formal employment, he said self-employed persons, professionals and some companies evade full tax payment due to the inability of the tax authorities to assess their true income and assess them accurately.
“We will give them a 45-day window to come forward and register and that will make them eligible for that waiver,” he said.
Baru expressed the readiness of the NNPC to continue to collaborate with the FIRS, Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other government agencies to generate revenue for the Federal Government.
“We are proud of the development and we tell ourselves that this is the time to fund the budget of the Federal Government from non-oil sources.”
