The fire incident caused a national grid failure recorded on January 2nd, 2018. Although the fire incident has been handled and normalcy restored, the country’s generation figures has still not sufficiently risen to the range of what was experienced during December 2017.
Specifically, in June, there were five instances of total system collapses and three incidents of partial system collapse, due to generation limitations.
Further checks also showed that the grid maintained above 3,000mw for over 20 days in July. The trend continued till Wednesday when power generation crossed to the 4,000mw peak generation.
Oduntan also noted that non-payment of electricity bill obligations and tariff that did not allow for full cost recovery could prevent the distribution companies from achieving desired outcome.
Electricity consumers in the country are facing some of the worst days in terms of electricity generation and distribution, made almost unbearable by what many consider to be crazy and unreasonably high bills, often for power that is not consumed.
