He stated that NNPC management considered its workforce as veritable tools in the fight against corruption, adding that the war against corruption would be won with all staff on board.

Baru noted that it was far more cost effective to create awareness and improve reporting skills and technique of staff members considering the huge outlay of time and resources that goes into the investigation and prosecution of fraud when allowed to fester.
Baru accused the Minister of State of bandying “humongous” contract figures to incite the public, and described the allegations of award of contracts without regard to due process as “unfounded and unfortunate”.
“The NNPC Board has no role, I repeat, has no role as far as the contracting process is concerned”, Dr. Baru emphasized.
He explained that as the major foreign exchange earner for the country, NNPC was very conscious of issues of corruption in all its ramifications and had gone beyond looking at corruption in terms of money alone.
He emphasized that with the prevailing global economic reality, the only survival strategy at a time like this was to change from old ways of doing business and embrace the best practice of transparency, accountability and honesty with integrity.
He explained that the principle of corporate governance has been stretched a notch higher with prompt remittances of oil and gas revenue into the Federation Account while it is also a matter of public knowledge that the Corporation has embraced fully the practice of conducting open public bid exercises in sourcing service providers and suppliers for day to day operational requirements.
