“We want to send a note of warning to the Federal legislators to stop playing politics with the safety of lives on the Federal highways. The rainy season has exposed the very soft under belly of our road networks and our members are the first line of casualties.”
The study showed that NNPC Mega Stations and its affiliates across the country sold the product for N160 per litre while many major and independent marketers in Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna, Onitsha, Enugu, Makurdi and most major cities were selling between N160 and N165 per litre. In Port Harcourt the average price is as low as N150 per litre.
“The union is, therefore, issuing a notice to withdraw its services any moment from now in solidarity with the affected workers if the unresolved payment of salaries and entitlements of these workers are not settled,” the statement read.

Opuiyo said the arrest was sequel to Ubah’s engagement in acts of economic sabotage, which included stealing, diversion and illegal sale of petroleum products stored in his tank farm by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

The workers are protesting non-renewal of their Collective Bargaining Agreement, CBA, that expired three years ago, deplorable conditions of nation’s high ways, alleged harassment by security, especially Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and plans by Capital Oil Plc to declare 2000 members redundant due to its unresolved issue with Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC.
