Mr. Tambuwal said almost all available hydrocarbon resources are deep underground, and that there is the need to engage experts to come up with in-depth, credible and convincing data capable of attracting international investment into basin.
“This endeavour will look at the minerals distribution, quantity, quality and size of deposits, possible reserve estimation and evaluation of general characteristics of Sokoto Basin.”
Kachikwu said, “I would like to see the Japanese coming; I would like to see the Koreans come here; I would like to see collaborative efforts that will make our oil industry produce everything that we need.”
Dr. Maikanti Baru explained that the Corporation, without any prompting has since embarked on properly and professional exploration of all inland basins in the country including the Sokoto basin.
The PTDF boss recalled that work on the college, awarded at over N15 billion in 2009, was to be completed within within two years. Eight years after, the project still remains uncompleted.
Gusau said, “At the centre of the agenda is the domestication of all PTDF training and capacity building programmes, with the implication that Nigerian university will now play a greater role in the process as partners and major stakeholders. The present scholarship arrangement, which is disproportionately focused on the Overseas Scholarship Scheme, is no longer sustainable and therefore needs to be reversed.”
“There is therefore need for us to reassert our relevance in the oil and gas industry by engaging in a very practical manner with the industry. PTDF has to move near the centre stage of the oil and gas industry by becoming increasingly involved.”
