Three years after the launch of Power Africa by President Barack Obama, the United States is on track to fulfill its initial $7 billion commitment over five years, and several departments and agencies have announced that they’ve expanded Power Africa commitments as detailed in the 2016 annual report.
As an implementing agency of both the Power Africa and US-Africa Clean Energy Finance (US-ACEF) initiatives, USTDA invests in project preparation activities designed to generate renewable and gas-fired power, modernise electric grids and increase energy efficiency in the sub-Saharan Africa region.

He explained that the Electrify Africa Act will direct US President Barack Obama to instigate a multi-year strategy that will be meant to assist countries in sub-Saharan Africa to implement national power strategies with a mix of energy solutions, with the inclusion of renewable energy resources.
“Our Power Africa Initiative is aimed at strengthening the energy sector, where shortage in electricity has frustrated the population and impeded growth,” the US Secretary of State said.
