07 January 2012, Sweetcrude, Ibadan – About 15 people lost their lives, Sunday, when a petrol tanker coming from Oyo/Ibadan end of the Ogbomoso–Oyo–Ibadan Road collided with an 18-seater commercial bus.
Only three people survived the crash which occurred at a sharp bend around Odo-Oba village, about five kilometres to Ogbomoso.
The 18-seater bus was coming from the Ilorin/Ogbomoso axis.
The fully-petrol tanker had overturned and exploded on impact with the commercial bus, which driver had lost control, with the bus flinging the occupants in different directions.
It men of the fire service had a hectic time trying to arrest the situation while men of the Nigerian Army and the National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA, were on hand to offer rescue operation.
The scene ws later cordoned off by officials of NEMA and other government agencies present while traffic was diverted to alternative routes.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims had been taken to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, together with survivors.
