Lagos — A group of protesters was reported to have blocked the logistic base of oil company Aiteo in Nembe on Sunday.
SweetcrudeReports gathered that the protesters disrupted operations at the base, seeking to table their demands before the company’s management.
“The protesters stormed the production site as early as possible and didn’t allow any of the workers gain access into the site. They demanded to speak with Aiteo’s management. They asked for renegotiation on some terms (of agreement between the community and Aiteo), and the company agreed to call a meeting on that”, our source said.
However, in a statement by the company’s spokesperson, Mr. Ndiana Matthew, on Monday, Aiteo did not mention the protest but said it had shut down the Nember Creek Trunk Line, NCTL, due to two new leak points along the line near Awoba Riser Manifold.
According to the statement, the leak occurred less than 24 hourrs after the start up of the NCTL from repairs of identified leak points occasioned by activities of oil thieves.
“Our emergency response process was immediately activated, and containment boom deployed to limit oil spread on bodies of water whilst efforts to identify cause of incident/repair has been initiated”.
“Consequently, all injectors have been advised in accordance with NCTL shutdown procedure to shut-in production into the NCTL immediately. Appropriate Oil Leakage/Spillage Notification Report will follow shortly to DPR/NOSDRA”, the statement said.
