Lagos — Thirty-nine projects out of 125 projects currently being handled by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, across the country, have failed to meet the projected deadline, while several others looked unlikely to also be completed before their deadlines, a document obtained by SweetcrudeReports has shown.
Although the 39 grid expansion regional projects had timeline of 2018 however as at January 2019, the projects were yet to be rounded up.
Such project is the Kafanchan 132kv 2 x 60MVA substation in Kaduna State. The project awarded to Valenz Holding Ltd in December 2007 and expected to have been completed in December 2018, is 85 percent complete.
Also, the Katsina- Daura 132kv DC line Katsina State, awarded to Optic Ltd in 2007, is at 94 percent completion despite a deadline of September 2018.
The Yelwa – Yauri 2 x 30/40MVA S/S and 100KM of 33KV line, Kebbi State is also not left out in the delay. Awarded to Valenz/ Electromontaz in December 2007, the project is still hanging at 67 percent completion. It should have been rounded up since December 2018.
Talking about the Grid Rehabilitation And Reinforcement, Katsina, Hadejia, Kontagora. It was awarded to Junot Construction in August 2010 with date for completion stated as December 2018. The project is 90 completed, and the 1X30MVA, 132/33 kV Substation at Wudil, Kano State– awarded to CON Engineering in August 2010, to have been completed in October 2018—70 percent completed.
Several other awarded projects on the list which are expected to be completed between this year and 2020, for unknown reasons, look largely behind schedule and unlikely to meet the targets.
SweetcrudeReports reached out to TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah but her cellphone number was unreachable. Text message was also not responded to until time of filing the report.
The country’s national grid has recently experienced several collapses leading to shortage of power supply to consumers by the Discos across the country.
The firm is also currently under the siege of the Trade Union Congress, TUC after the later accused it of poor handling of workers’ welfare, as well as intimidation of the union members.

This led to members of the TUC picketing TCN’s Abuja office on Monday, however, their move was resisted by TCN’s workers.
Other projects already awarded and should have been completed in 2018 but are still hanging are:
