19 April 2018, News Wires – Japanese imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) dropped 2.6 percent in March as compared to the same month a year ago, according to the provisional data released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance.

Japan, the world’s top LNG buyer, imported 7.93 million tonnes of LNG last month. These imports were also down from the previous month when the country received 8.29 million tonnes of LNG, due to colder weather and winter demand.

The value of March LNG imports was about $2.85 billion, up 12 percent year-on-year, the data shows.

To remind, the average price for spot LNG cargoes imported into Japan contracted in the month of March dropped off from the February figures.

The contract-based price was at $8.8 per mmBtu, a 17 percent decrease compared to February. The arrival-based price was at $10.9 mmBtu.
