24 July 2013, Uyo—Indigenes of Eket and Esit Eket local government areas of Akwa Ibom State have given Frontier Oil Limited, FOL, a seven-day ultimatum to pay N150 million meant for community development projects or face protest.
In a statement by the leaders of the communities in Eket, the people vowed to fight if their demands were not met.
The statement said that the communities issued a seven-day ultimatum to FOL to remit N150m for 2011 and 2013 community development projects to the two foundations it established.
Checks revealed that FOL established Eket and Esit Eket community development foundations, ECDF and EECDF, as a link between the communities and the company.
The communities accused the company of “playing oil politics” with the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed with them.
