15 April 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos — Frontline revivalist of Ajaokuta Steel Company of Nigeria and Nigeria Iron Ore Mines Company, NIOMCO, Itakpe, Barrister Natasha Akpoti has sued Daily Post and other media houses for N500 million before High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja for defamation of character in a series of false publication.
In suit no: CV/1446/17, Barrister Natasha represented by Barrister Samuel Ogala of Falana and Falana chamber sued Daily Post, Mr. James Bamisaye (Publisher of Daily Post Nigeria), The Whistler Communication, (Publisher of The Whistler), and Ali Adoyi.
The court on 13 April 2017 issued a writ of summons to the defendants to appear before it within 30 days when the notice was issued.
“You are hereby commanded that within 30 days after the service of this writ on you, inclusive of the day of such service, you do cause an appearance to be entered for you in an action at the suit of the Plaintiff and take notice that in default of your so doing the Plaintiff may proceed therein, and judgment may be given in your absence,” the court stated.
Daily Post had in February 3, 2017 published an article titled: Group clashes with Natasha Akpoti over alleged sponsored campaign on Ajaokuta Steel Company alleging that the plaintiff was been funded in several media campaigns and alleged blackmail of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, especially the Minister of Solid Minerals and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi and other stakeholders in the Nigerian Steel sector.
