Lagos — The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Barr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, MON has called for a strong legal framework for the Council as the nation’s Port Economic Regulator.

Akutah made the call when Dr. Bolanle Olawale Babalakin (SAN) led a team from Babalakin & Co on a courtesy visit to the NSC’s Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.

The NSC boss stressed that the idea of pushing for its transmutation to Nigerian Shipping and Port Economic Regulatory Agency is to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the nation’s ports.

He described the visit by Babalakin & Co as a welcomed development, noting that their technical knowledge would guide Nigerian Shippers’ Council when transmuted into Nigeria Shipping & Port Economic Regulatory Agency.

He also harped on the importance of African Continental Free Trade Agreement, AfCFTA, in promoting export produce in the country.

In his response, Dr. Bolanle Olawale Babalakin said the essence of their proposed partnership is to institutionalise a process that will assist the NSC’s activities as Port Economic Regulator.

Dr. Babalakin stressed the need for Alternative Dispute Resolution in solving issues amicably out of court settlement.
