Lagos — The Federal government has approved the establishment of a Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, oil and gas logistic centre and a free trade zone in Akwa Ibom State.
This was revealed by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, during a visit to Uyo on Saturday.
According to him, government would partner Akwa Ibom government to build the state’s first oil and gas base, adding that 50,000 hectares of land has been approved for an oil and gas free trade zone in the state.
He said work will start in earnest on the building of the oil and gas base and the trade zone.
He urged the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, to set up a team to work with the NNPC in drawing up modalities for collaboration on the projects.
Gov. Emmanuel, while responding, proposed that the groundbreaking for the logistics base be done in September to mark the state’s 33rd anniversary.
