Lagos — FORMER Senior Assistant to Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on maritime matters, Mr. Leke Oyewole, has called for harmonization of waterways security platforms of all government agencies so as to have a more effective monitoring of the nation’s coastal and territorial waters.
Speaking to Sweetcrudereports in Lagos, the former presidential aide said that it is possible to bring all platforms of the Police, Navy, the Nigerian Ports Authority and NIMASA under one platform because that is the way to go in modern day governance.
Oyewole who is the Managing Director/Chief Executive of Atlantic Factorial Limited, also said that his company has access to over 300 Satellites globally adding that from that network, adding that everything about the maritime sector can be handled using appropriate data analytic and interdiction programme.
According to Oyewole, using data analytics will ensure that whatever the country want to happen in its waterways will happen and what it does not want stays that way.
He said that it is possible to collapse all the various platforms being run and managed by the various agencies and institutions of government under one platform and control adding that that is the way to go
He explained that it is one thing to acquire assets adding that it is also important to have all these equipment in silos so as put all the intelligence gathered in safety and secured manner for other agencies to use.
He stated: “If I am correct, they probably bought boat aircrafts and maybe they bought drones. It is important to have all these things in silos, meaning that the pilots will fly around come back with its data and drop it in the office; the drone will do the same thing.
“I can tell for sure that there is intelligence that can be derived from all the data integrated together and viewed holistically and more importantly, if you put all these in perspective on satellite data, be it imagery, be it data or radio frequency analytic, most of the intelligence can still be obtained that will enable to the government do things differently for the benefit of the country.’’
