16 January 2013, Sweetcrude, Bauchi – Chairman of the Flood Disaster Relief Committee in Bauchi State, Ambassador Adamu Aliyu, on Tuesday said the state lost over N3bn to flood disaster last year.
The floods that hit many parts of the country last year ravaged more than 20 local government areas of the state.
Aliyu, who stated this during a visit to affected communities in Dambam, Misau and Darazo local government areas on Tuesday, said the state had received N400m fund from the Federal Government.
Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ibrahim Jahun, Aliyu said the visit was aimed at identifying the victims and analysing what they lost.
Promising that the committee would give the money directly to the beneficiaries, Aliyu noted however that the sum was meagre when compared to the destruction caused by the floods.
Chairman of Misau Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Hardawa, commended the committee for the visit, saying the loss incurred by the victims was enormous.
