*Says installations vandalised in Ibadan
11 March 2014, Sweetcrude, Ibadan – The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, which coverage area cuts across Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Kwara states as well as parts of Ekiti, Kogi and Niger states, has explained the reason behind the power outage currently experienced by its customers in Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Ilesa, Omu-Aran and parts of Ikirun Business Units.
A statement issued in Ibadan by the company’s spokesman, Mr. Tokunbo Peters, explained that the power outage was as a result of a fault on a 150MVA transformer at the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, sub-station at Osogbo.
This, according to the statement, has hindered the evacuation of power from transmission facility to some injection sub-stations in the franchise area of IBEDC, thus resulting into power outage.
IBEDC regretted the inconveniences the power outage may have caused customers in the affected areas, promising that normal power supply would resume as soon as TCN commenced the evacuation of power to its injection sub-stations in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, vandals have succeeded in vandalising two 500KVA transformer sub-stations in the network of IBEDC. One of the vandalism incidents took place at Irepodun Local Government Area headquarters, Ede, while the other occurred in Ibadan.
In the course of vandalising the sub-station at Irepodun Local Government headquarters, the vandals tripped off power supply to Ede Water Works’ 33KV line. One of the vandals got electrocuted in the process when power was suddenly restored to the feeder.
In the case of the vandalism at Ibadan, Mr. Peters disclosed that one of the vandals was caught, while the vandalised materials, including feeder pillar and armoured cables, were recovered. Both cases have since been reported to the Police.
