15 May 2014, Benin City – The Benin National Congress, BNC, a socio-cultural organisation in Edo State, has vowed to resist any attempt to relocate the Benin City headquarters of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, to Warri, Delta State, by the Federal Government.
The group lamented that Benin youths were being taken for granted because they had always toed the line of peace despite provocations from the Federal Government, adding that they might resort to militancy in their bid to retain the NPDC headquarters in Benin City, noting that the call for its relocation to Warri by some Warri indigenes was an affront on the Binis.
A statement by Mr. David Ekomwenrenren called on security agencies to investigate those calling for the relocation of NPDC to Warri because “they may as well be behind some nefarious activities aimed at making our state insecure as a basis to pursue their mischievous plan.”
Backing the earlier condemnation of the move by the Benin Forum, the umbrella body of all Binis, BNC vowed to disrupt the activities of oil companies in the state if the Federal Government relocates the company.
