07 September 2015, Maiduguri – The Transmission Company of Nigeria said on Monday that it would restore electricity supply to Maiduguri within the next few days.
TCN Bauchi Regional Manager, Malam Idris Ali, made the promise while paying a courtesy visit to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House, Maiduguri.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that electricity supply to the city was cut on June 3, after suspected insurgents attacked the 132 KVA Damboa Power line in Damboa, headquarters of Damboa Local Government Area of the state.
Ali said the company was saddened by the prolonged outage in the city, which had created enormous social and economic problems.
He added that a team of engineers had been assembled to proceed to the damaged transmission line to repair it.
“By the grace of God, we will restore the 132 KVA power line in the next few days but we need assistance from the state government to carry out the task.
“Our visit is to seek government support in terms of security cover for the technical staff that will conduct the repairs in the first place,” Ali stated.
He appealed to Shettima to provide a vehicle for the team to enable them to access the 132 KVA power line to carry out the repairs.
“The Damboa terrain is very bad due to the rains; we need a four-wheel drive to convey our team to the site.
“Once we have the vehicle and the security cover, our team will begin work immediately by trying to identify the area of damage at the power line and effect repairs immediately,’’ Ali said.
The governor commended the officials of the company for deeming it fit to embark on the visit.
Shettima promised to liaise with security chiefs in the state towards providing the security cover for the team to carry out the repairs immediately.
