Mkpoikana Udoma 17 September 2016 Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – Five out of the 14 Nestoil workers kidnapped more than two weeks ago in Rivers State have regained their freedom.
The oil workers, according to a source, escaped from their abductors in the early hours of Saturday (17 September), while on transit from one location to another due to intense pressure from security agents.
The source said that one out of the five escapees is still in shock and has been rushed to the hospital.
Confirming the development to our correspondents in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer of Rivers State, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said the rescued oil workers have been debriefed and reunited with their families.
Omoni explained that the seeming delay in the rescue of the oil workers was as a result of the Police determination not to use force in rescuing the victims in order to avoid losing any of them.
He further reassured that the remaining nine oil workers will be released unhurt.
“Naturally, having gone through such experience, it is normal for them (the oil workers) to have psychological trauma. But they have been debriefed and have been reunited with their families,” he said.
