Port Harcourt — The British High Commission in Nigeria has announced the planned expansion of business and investment opportunities for economic growth, by British companies operating in Rivers State.

Speaking, the British Deputy High Commissioner (Lagos), Mr. Ben Llewellyn-Jones, assured of Britain’s intended partnership with the Rivers State Government for economic growth, through business, investments and wealth-creation initiatives.

Llewellyn-Jones said these while briefing newsmen, when he led a delegation from the British High Commission on a visit to the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The envoy said the meeting with the Governor Fubara was imperative, to foster a better and stronger diplomatic relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

He further said though there were many British companies already doing business in the state and contributing to the economy, it was pertinent to review and seek out encouraging conditions to expand bilateral opportunities.

“The meeting with the governor was to intimate him of the planned expansion of business development and investment opportunities by British companies.

“The aim is to improve basic public services, enhance security, create job opportunities and help the economy grow,” the envoy said.

The British also visited the immediate-past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, at his country home in Rumueprikom, where they held a closed-door meeting with the former governor.
