10 November 2015, Sweetcrude, Lagos – President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, while announcing the appointment of Ibrahim Magu, as the new helmsman.
The sack of Mr. Lamorde comes months before his term was due to expire, bringing to a close his four-year tenure.
Reports indicate he was not sacked but was sent on leave since President Buhari had no intention of renewing his tenure after the current one expires in February.
Mr. Ibrahim Magu, his replacement is an Deputy police commissioner and has developed quite a reputation at the anti-corruption agency as an officer with zero tolerance for corruption.
Mr. Lamorde had come under intense scrutiny lately with varying degree of charges leveled against bordering on corruption.
However, he denied any wrongdoing, saying the allegations were part of a smear campaign.
