21 April 2014, Calabar – Manufacturing of petroleum pipes will soon commence in Calabar following the decision of Brentex Petroleum Services to establish a plant in the Cross River State capital. The company has agreed to set up the factory at the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Calabar, its management announced in Calabar.
And following the completion of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) on the multi-million naira project construction is expected to commence soon on the site. On completion, the plant said to be the largest in Africa would employ not less than thousand skilled and unskilled workers.
Brentex, which already operates similar plants in Egypt, will produce pipes for up-stream, mid stream and down-stream oil sectors.
During the public presentation of the project’s Technical Profile and EIA report in Calabar, the Managing Director of the company Mr. Chidi Nzerem, said Brentex decided to establish the plant in Nigeria because of the economic potential in the country. He further explained that the project on completion will impact positively on the economy of the nation, the state and host communities.
