07 April 2016, Sweetcrude, Lagos – Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, has confirmed the fire incident which killed two contract workers at its Escravos facility in Delta State.
Chevron’s General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Mr. Deji Haastrup, in a statement, said the fire broke out in a container storage facility at their Escravos location away from the production operations area.
He explained that the fire was promptly put out but sadly, two employees of contractors to CNL died as a result of the fire incident.
“Our hearts go out to their families at this difficult time,” Mr. Haastrup said.
He added that the incident has been reported to all relevant authorities including its Joint Venture Partner, NNPC and the Directorate of Petroleum Resources, DPR.
“We are investigating the cause of the incident. Our priority is the safety of our employees and contractors. Chevron wishes to reiterate its commitment to operational excellence, the safety of all personnel, the security of assets and protection of the environment,” he said.
