07 April 2016, Sweetcrude, Lagos – Men of Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC, officer has allegedly shot dead a black marketer fuel dealer near Forte Oil fuel station on 21 Road, Festac Town, Lagos.
Another person, who sustained serious injury as NSCDC officers shot sporadically at the dealers as said to have died while being rushed to the hospital.
According to eye witnesses, the incident occurred around 1pm on Wednesday when men of the Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corps attempted to arrest the fuel dealers and seize their products.
It was learnt that the dealers who took advantage of the lingering fuel scarcity to openly sell on the street on exorbitant rates, resisted arrest and also prevented the NSCDC officials from seizing their products.
The situation was said to have degenerated when a female Civil Defence officer allegedly shot one of the dealers, identified as Dijo, on his back and he died at the spot.
Another eye witness said another civil defence officer shot sporadically at the black market dealer.
A resident of Festac, identified as Smart, sustained a bullet wound in the process and later died as he was being conveyed to the hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Dolapo Badmus, confirmed that one person was killed in the incident, adding that the situation has been brought under control and investigation into the incident has commenced.
