19 March 2014, News Wires – Chinese oil giant uncovers 55-metre gas reservoir with Lingshui 17-2-1 probe in South China Sea
China National Offshore Oil Corporation has made what it sees as a breakthrough gas discovery in the South China Sea’s Qiongdongnan basin.
The Beijing-headquartered explorer said that its Lingshui 17-2-1 well had uncovered a gas reservoir with a total thickness of 55 metres.
The probe was drilled in 1450 metres of water to a depth of 3510 metres in the eastern Lingshui Sag deep-water area of the basin.
“The discovery has not only proven the exploration potential of structural and lithologic trap in central Canyon channel of Lingshui Sag, but also further confirmed the good exploration prospects in the deep-water area of Qiongdongnan Basin,” CNOOC said.
