17 February 2016, Abuja – The outgoing Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, Mr. Ahmed Farouk, Wednesday, officially bowed out of office, as he handed over to the Assistant General Manager, in charge of Operations, Mr. Victor Shidok.
However, a source in the agency who does not want his name in print, said trouble is brewing in the PPPRA, over the hand over to Shidok.
The source said Ahmed should have handed over to Mr. Moses Mbaba, who is the General Manager, Administration and Human Resources, who he claimed is the most senior officer of the agency.
The source expressed concern over Ahmed’s decision to hand over to Shidok, instead of Mbaba as stated in the directive from the Office the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the PPPRA, Mr. Lanre Oladele over the issue proved abortive as his phones were switched off.
Also as at the time of going to press, Shidok was yet to respond to calls and text message sent to his phone.
However, the source said uneasy calm currently pervades the PPPRA over the development and they are waiting for the Federal Government to address the issue quickly before it plunges the agency into crisis.
Ahmed was among the Chief Executives of government agencies sacked by the Federal Government on Monday.
In the statement announcing the sack, Mr. Babachir David Lawal, Secretary to the Government of the Federation said “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the most senior officers in the parastatals, agencies and councils should oversee the activities of the organizations pending the appointment of substantive CEOs.”
