Lagos — THE Director General of the Africa Centre for Supply Chain, ACSC, Dr. Obiora Madu, has said that a crisis is currently brewing in the logistics sub-sector following the dearth of skilled labour in the supply chain industry.
Speaking at the just concluded maiden awards and dinner of the African Centre for Supply Chain, ACSC, Madu said that the lack of skill challenge is a global phenomenon noting that the situation is getting to a crisis stage.
He explained that the situation in Nigeria is worsened by the JAPA phenomenon as a lot of skilled logistics experts are leaving the country in their numbers.
He disclosed that companies are losing good hands because people with very good jobs are also leaving.
According to him “In fact, it is not only in Nigeria. In fact, DHL had research, and in that research, it was said that lack of supply chain talent is getting to a crisis stage.
“Nigeria’s own has become worse because of JAPA, so companies are losing good hand. You see people with very well-paid jobs leaving the country, that is what has complicated our own.
“We are still better than so many African countries, but the fact is that in America, in Ireland, supply chain talent challenge is at 39 percent of the challenge they have.
“That is part Multi-Mix Academy and the African Centre for Supply Chain want to be doing, we want to grow local certification.”
Speaking in similar vein, Mr. Europe Bandele said Nigeria need to develop her people, processes and technology with a view to preparing for the future of logistics and supply chain sectors.
Bandele also said that with more integration and connection, much more can be achieved adding operators in the supply chain sub-sector need to move out of their silos and come together stop seeing each other as competitors.
