Port Harcourt — The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS in Owerri, Imo State capital, says it has confiscated contraband goods worth N442.5 million.
The contraband items include 2,682 bags of foreign rice; 10,002 cartons of N215,387,201.18 oil; 3,122 live ammunition for pump action rifles and 300 used and expired tyres.
Others are, Marcopolo bus, a Toyota Sienna, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Pathfinder and a brewery truck, among others, used in conveying the smuggled items.
Speaking, Controller of Customs in Imo, Kayode Olusemire, while displaying the seized items, described the activities of smugglers as unfortunate and inimical to the economy and safety of Nigeria.
Olusemire also disclosed that the items were intercepted in Rivers, Abia and Imo, emphasising that operational activities were also carried out simultaneously in other states across the country.
