09 January 2014, News Wires – Dana Petroleum has been awarded two new blocks in Egypt’s Western Desert, West Dakhla 1 and West Dakhla 2.
The Aberdeen-based explorer, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea National Oil Corporation, gained the blocks through the Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope) 2010 bid round.
The first three-year exploration phase is to see aeromagnetic survey work and the acquisition of 500 kilometres of 2D seismic, Dana Petroleum said.
Egypt managing director Paul Barnett said that the explorer had now secured three new Egyptian exploration blocks in recent months along with the South Wadi Dara block in the Gulf of Suez.
The 52-square kilometre South Wadi Dara block in the eastern desert was awarded under the Ganope 2012 bid round.
