Lagos — The death of Dr. Charles Akhigbe, promoter of the Benin Inland Dry Port, BICD, last year has stalled the continuation of the project as all activities regarding the construction of the Dry port has been on hold.
Speaking with Newsmen the development, Mr. Chris Orode, consultant to the project, confirmed that nothing has happened since Akhigbe passed on.
Orode also said that efforts to get Dr. Doris Akhigbe, wife of the deceased, to continue the project has not yielded any result.
Meanwhile, the Edo state government has said that the project will continue from where Akhigbe stopped.
But in a swift reaction to the development, Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Wealth Creation, Mathew Edionwe, told newsmen that the demise of the promoter is not the end of the port project.
Edionwe also said that the state government is very much in touch with the wife of the deceased adding that plans are underway to continue from where the project had stopped.
Efforts to get Dr. Doris Akhigbe was futile as calls to her phones were not answered neither were they returned.
