01 November 2013, Abraka – Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, in partnership with Delta State University, DELSU, Investment Limited, DIL, has commenced skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training programme for youths of Urhobo ethnic nationality.
The training is aimed at equipping youths from the eight local government areas in Delta Central senatorial district to be self dependent in fishery, poultry, snail- rearing, grass cutter rearing, computer appreciation, welding and fabrication business.
Chairman of DESOPADEC, Mr Oritse Kpogho, enjoined the participants to take the training seriously, noting that the oil commission was prepared to equip leaders of tomorrow with necessary skills to prepare them for tomorrow.
He said: “If we do this regularly till the end of our tenure, it means we have contributed to the human capital development policy of the state government. There is no better opportunity than having the programme in the university.”
Vice Chancellor, Delta State University , Prof. Eric Arubayi, who commended DESOPADEC for the initiative, said “We have been feeling the impact of DESOPADEC executive in this institution. I want them to continue, they have built a lecture theatre for us, we ask that more theatres and roads be built, these will help for the training of our youths.
“Today, we are gathered for youths training, you are in the right place, we have a lot of experience in this area, we have trained for Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC and others. We have the equipment and the personnel for the training.
