18 February 2016, Abuja – Retired Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke, the husband of Nigeria’s embattled former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, was arrested Wednesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Mr Madueke, according to reports, was arrested by EFCC operatives in Abuja over alleged laundering of more than $600,000 through his personal accounts.
His international passport was subsequently seized just as the EFCC placed him under caution.
“[Mr. Madueke] was arrested this morning [in Abuja] and released on administrative bail,” SaharaReporters quoted an EFCC source source as revealing.
It is the latest development in the ongoing international investigation into the financial activity of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Maduke, who was arrested last year in London for financial crimes.
Mrs. Madueke was at the helm of the petroleum industry in Nigeria during a time of unprecedented theft, according to analysts.
