Port Harcourt — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Nsima Ekere, for alleged fraud of N47billion during his stint at the Commission.
EFCC Spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwajaren, who announced the arrest, alleged that Ekere diverted funds to the tune of N47 billion through registered contractors of the agency.
Oil companies operating in the Niger Delta region remit statuory 3percent of their annual budget to NDDC, for the development of the region.
Ekere is a former deputy governor in Akwa Ibom State and the All Progressives Congress’ governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections.
