24 April 2017, Sweetcrude, Abuja – The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that they have recovered over N17billion in the last four months.
Magu stated this while speaking at the 2017 Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) Week/Award Day on Saturday at the FCT Archive Building, Abuja.
The Acting EFCC chairman said the anti-graft agency recovered N521,815,000.00, $53,272 747.00, £122,890.00, and €547,730.00.
Magu also revealed that the commission recorded 62 convictions in the first quarter of the year.
“Apart from several other recoveries running into several billions of naira, the recent whistleblower policy has led to the recovery by EFCC of N521,815,000.00, $53,272 747.00, £122,890.00, and €547,730.00,” he said.
Only last month while he was being interrogated by the Senate during his confirmation hearing, Magu said he has no record of how much the commission has recovered from looters.
Responding to a question from Senator Duro Faseyi who asked, “How much funds has been recovered since you took charge of the commission?”, Magu replied: “It is difficult to give a report on how much has been recovered from the fight against corruption,” adding that “It is very difficult for me to say.”
