20 February 2015, Lagos—Electricity consumers, Thursday, expressed alarm over “outrageous estimated bills” distributed by the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, IEDC, saying the bills increased by over 300 percent.
A housewife, Mrs Stella Azuka, who showed her bill to Vanguard, said she had been paying an average of N2,700 before last month’s bill of over N8,000 without any corresponding increase in power supply.
Azuka accused IEDC of exploiting its customers, especially at Ayewanle area of Alimosho Local Government Area, where “residents do not have regular electricity.”
This was even as some small business entrepreneurs in Abuja, yesterday, called on the Federal Government to invest more in alternative sources of electricity to address the challenge in the power sector.
The businessmen, who are members of Wuse Market Shop Operators and Traders Cooperative Society, made the call when they visited the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ABUCCI.
