09 September 2013, Cairo – A number of electricity companies offered to implement new mega ventures for power generation and stretching electricity lines in a number of Arab countries, mainly Oman, Iraq, Libya and Sudan.
This came during the meeting of Electricity and Energy Minister Ahmed Emam with heads of electricity contracting companies to discuss the problems and obstacles impeding their activities in the external markets, especially the Arab and African ones.
Emam decided to take all necessary measures to protect the state-owned contracting companies and the possibility for these companies to take part in the electricity linkage projects between Egypt and Saudi Arabia as well as between Egypt and Sudan.
The minister further gave strict directives to give priority to the national companies in implementing the projects and not to resort to foreign firms except in works which Egyptian companies lack experience in.
