16 March 2013, Luanda – Italian oil giant, Eni, says a sidetrack to its Vandumbu 1 deep-water oil discovery off Angola has yielded 114 metres of net oil pay.
The original well was drilled on Block 15/06 in the first half of last year, to a depth of 4107 metres in water depths of 976 metres.
Additional drilling has now seen Vandumbu 1 ST drilled in a different direction to a depth of 3480 metres to uncover the Lower Miocene sand, 34-degrees API oil pay.
The Milan-based explorer said the find around 150 kilometres off the coast was the ninth discovery at the prolific block, which is home to its West Hub project.
“As suggested by data acquired, Eni estimates that Vandumbu 1 ST has a production capacity in excess of 5000 barrel of oil per day,” the company said.
Eni operates the block on 35% with partners SSI Fifteen (25%), Sonangol (15%), Total (15%), Falcon Oil Holding Angola (5%) and Statoil (5%).
