28 March 2015, Enugu — Angry protesters on Thursday besieged the Enugu State House of Assembly complex to kick against a request by Governor Sullivan Chime for the House to give him fresh approval to obtain N11 billion loan.
The protesters, who were led by the state governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Okechukwu Eze, gained entrance into the House of Assembly premises around 9.am and chanted anti-government songs and slogans.
With their placards, they barricaded the entrance of the House of Assembly complex and demanded for an audience with the Speaker, Eugene Odo.
Some of the placards read: “N11 billion loan monumental fraud”, “Chime has milked Enugu State dry financially”, “Enugu State House of Assembly, don’t approve N11 billion loan”, “Speaker, please save Enugu State from bankruptcy”.
Security operatives attached to the House attempted to calm down the protesters but they threatened to move into the complex if the Speaker fails to come out and address them.
The confrontation between the security operatives and the protesters was almost degenerating into a brawl but for the prompt intervention of the House Public Relations Officer (PRO), Jonas Ugwuanyi who called the attention of the Speaker to what was happening in the premises.
