09 April 2014, News Wires – Lundin Petroleum has gained the final clearance from Norway’s safety agency to drill a keenly awaited appraisal at its Gohta discovery in the Barents Sea.
The Swedish explorer intends to use semi-submersible Island Innovator to drill the 7120/1-4S probe that is due to be spudded next month in a water depth of 332 metres in Lundin-operated production licence 492, with an estimated duration of 65 days.
The probe – the second to be drilled in the licence – will be drilled about 35 kilometres north-west of the Snohvit gas field as a follow-up to the Gohta find made last autumn that is currently estimated to hold around 170 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Lundin holds a 40% operating stake in the licence with partners Det Norske Oljeselskap and Noreco on 40% and 20% respectively.
