19 January 2017, Freight forwarders in Nigeria have asked the Federal Government to provide cargo villages within the ports areas to serve as parks where forwarders could use as a base to carry out their business.
According to the forwarders, they are usually neglected even when provisions are made for other stakeholders in the maritime sector.
Speaking during the parley, the Managing Director, NPA, Ms. Hadiza Usman, said the meeting was aimed at making the authority better informed about the plight of port operators and to seek collaboration on how to address challenges facing the industry.
She added that it was the beginning of more interactions between stakeholders and the NPA in 2017.
The freight forwarders urged the NPA to ensure a speedy passage of the Port and Habour Bill pending at the National Assembly.
They also called for collaboration among agencies at the ports to ensure increased productivity and effectiveness.
