03 March 2014, Kaduna – The acute fuel scarcity in Kaduna State has continued unabated, two weeks after the return of long queues at filling stations in the state.
Checks revealed that the scarcity of the product is causing pains and hardship to the residents of the state, as road side petrol vendors known as black marketers are taking advantage of the scarcity to hike the price of the product by fifty per cent.
Some filling stations’ managers blamed the scarcity on unavailability of the product from the Kaduna Refinery.
Some residents complained that the shortage of petrol which started on Tuesday last week, has crippled socio-economic activities in the city.
Our correspondent learnt that a four litre container of the commodity which used to sell for N450 now costs between N600 and N650.
It was also observed that some of the marketers have closed their service stations even though they have the commodity in stock.
A manager of one of the filling stations in Kaduna, who pleaded for anonymity, blamed the scarcity on Kaduna Refinery who he accused of hoarding the products.
