10 October 2013, Accra – The second edition of the most comprehensive publication on Ghana’s oil and gas industry, ‘The Oil and Gas Year 2013’ has been launched in Accra today.
The report published by Wildcat International and produced in partnership with the Ministry of Energy, Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC), and Stratcomm revealed the mechanics of the country’s oil and gas value chain and its boundaries.
Speakers at the event included the Hon. Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Benjamin Spencer Kwaku Dagadu, the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr Alex Mould and Country Manager, Kosmos Energy, Mr Ken Keag.
President John Dramani Mahama whose article on the future and governance of Ghana’s oil and gas industry became the cornerstone of this year’s edition said, “Ghana approaches its recent oil and gas discoveries with a strong sense of the history of the industry. Across the globe, time has shown that natural resource driven prosperity is not so much as result of abundance as much as successful asset management and integration into the larger economy”.
Gas infrastructure was at the center of Ghana’s energy industry in 2013.
The Oil and Gas Year Ghana 2013 brought together private and public stakeholders in Ghana’s hydrocarbon industry.
Some individuals and companies were given awards for their contribution in the oil and gas sector.
Mr George Sipa Adjah Yankey received the Man of the Year Award for his stewardship of the $850million Western Corridor Gas Infrastructure Project. The West African Gas Pipeline was also awarded Engineering Project of the year for the critical 12 months repair work that brought much needed gas and significant electricity generation capacity back on stream.
The Education Initiative of the year awards went to the GNPC Oil and Gas Learning Foundation, a $3 million programme aimed at accelerating capacity building for Ghanaians in oil and gas.
The Ministry of Energy and the Jubilee partners Tullow Oil, Kosmos Energy, Anadarko, PetroSA and GNPC were awarded Local Content Initiative of the Year for the inauguration of the Enterprise Development Centre in Takoradi and the Bui Hydro Power Plant won the Power Project of the Year for the $790 million 400mw project set for completion by the end of 2013.
