07 October 2013, Accra – The Director of Jubilee Training Centre, JTTC, Mr. Mathew Kofi Gyan, has called for the continuous learning and development of industrial workers and students as a means of achieving the 90% local content policy of government in the oil and gas industry.
According to him, developing the skills and competencies of technical industrial workers will help the personnel explore choices to enhance their potential, and perform satisfactorily on the job.
He pledged the Takoradi Polytechnic’s preparedness to providing trainees with top quality training, so that they can excel in their various fields of endeavour.
Mr. Gyan made these remarks at the first orientation programme to equip students and workers with the general idea of life and safety issues in the oil and gas industry at the JTTC. He stressed that the participants, on completion of their training programmes, would be able to work in upstream, downstream, onshore or offshore sections, either in the petroleum or allied industries.
In addition, the programme will provide the participants with knowledge in the fields of health and safety, instrumentation, mechanical, electrical and process engineering. They will also, understand the general safety information that every employee should know before entering any industrial establishment.
Mr. Mathew Gyan also asserted that the six months programme had been designed to fast track the developmental needs of the industry, to ensure rewarding and satisfying careers. The Director also hinted that the core mandate of the centre was to help trainees achieve their professional goals, by providing training, formal feedback, developmental opportunities, and a structured sequence of job rotations.
He added that the trainee’s would be introduced to safety and health training, to familiarise themselves with new safety principles, organisational setup of industries, and educate them on how to operate effectively within its systems and structures.
The training is provided through in-house experts, self-study options by experts from the Technical Training Enterprise, National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), and Process Authority Award Vocational Qualification Science Engineering Technology, all based in the UK.
Instructively, the JTTC was established by the Jubilee Partners, in collaboration with the Takoradi Polytechnic, to provide competency-based training for future technicians in the emerging oil and gas and allied industries in Ghana.
The Centre provides internationally accredited vocational qualification training in the Takoradi Polytechnic that is sustainable and meets the required health and safety standards.
It also provide hands-on technical training to Ghanaians and other nationals in the fields of instrumentation, mechanical, electrical and process engineering at the technical level.
The Centre provides improved health and safety awareness, and training based on the Technical Training Enterprise, National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), and Process Authority Award Vocational Qualification Science Engineering Technology, all based on UK standardisations.
