18 March 2014, News Wires – A land rig owned by Norwegian contractor Global Rig Company is ablaze in west Texas after suffering a blowout.
The fire broke out on the rig on Monday while it was working in the US state “after a well control incident”, the Oslo-listed company said in a statement.
It stated that all employees working on the rig are safe and no one was injured.
“At this time the fire is still burning and an inspection of the rig to determine damage is currently not possible,” the company added.
The 1800-horsepower Global Ideal 1800 rig is among six units that are operated in the US by local wholly-owned subsidiary NorAm Drilling Company, based in Houston.
