16 September 2013, Abuja – The governors of the 36 states of the federation are expected to meet Tuesday to discuss crude oil theft, the continued deductions from excess crude account and the Sovereign Wealth Fund, SWF.
The meeting is expected to take place at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja
The Director General of the Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, Bayo Okuaro, confirmed the meeting to THISDAY Monday.
He also said all the 36 state governors had been invited to the meeting with the following agenda – fresh and subsisting litigations; update on Federation Allocation Accounts Committee (FAAC), Excess Crude Account (ECA) and the SWF.
Other issues on the agenda of the meeting include the publication of inaugural speeches, capacity building (Galilee Institute), investment conferences in the United States (US) and Russia.
The meeting is expected to discuss oil theft and polio eradication as well as an update on 2013 immunisation leadership challenge.
What is not clear is whether all the governors will attend in view of the crisis in the forum, but Okuaru told THISDAY that all the governors were extended invitations and that they all responded that they would attend.
The NGF, since May 24, this year has been polarised into two camps of pro-Amaechi and pro-Jonah Jang.
Amaechi at the election of May 24 defeated his colleague with 19 to 16 votes.
