20 April 2015, News Wires – Operators and contractors have put their collective heads together to come up with new standardised documentation for subsea production systems under a joint industry project led by DNV GL.
The so-called Recommended Practice streamlines the complex documentation typically required in developing subsea equipment to considerably simplify the process, resulting in delivery cost and time savings, according to the Norwegian risk management outfit.
DNV GL’s project leader Jarl Magnusson said the collaborative effort represents a “significant progression in standardising the vast set of documents for designing, approving, manufacturing, verifying, operating and maintaining subsea equipment”.
A typical subsea project can involve anywhere between 10,000 and 80,000 documents, depending on its complexity, over a 30-year lifecycle, resulting in heavy costs in document management.
The first issue of the set of common industry guidelines and recommendations has been developed by operators including Statoil, Lundin Petroleum, Det Norske Oljeselskap and Centrica together with contractors such as FMC Technologies, Aker Subsea, OneSubsea and Subsea 7.
