29 January 2015, Warri —As reactions continue to trail the recent visit by President Goodluck Jonathan to the Itsekiri nation in Warri, Delta State, the Warri Interest Group, WIG, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to perform the groundbreaking of the controversial $16 billion Export Processing Zone, EPZ, in Ogidigben, Warri South- West Local Government Area on February 4.
The President had, during his visit to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II, directed the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, to liaise with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and relevant authorities to fix a date for the ground breaking, which he said he will perform before the end of the current administration.
But National Coordinator, WIG, Alex Eyeful, in a statement in Warri, yesterday, said there can be no better date than February 4, since President Jonathan had told the Warri monarch that he would be coming back to the oil city same day to discuss politics with the royal father.
Eyengho said: “It is a matter of using one stone to kill two birds. Mr. President in the company of the Olu of Warri should dash to the EPZ project site at Ogidigben in the morning for the much-awaited groundbreaking ceremony which should not take more than two hours. Thereafter, he can discuss politics with the monarch and his subjects. Doing otherwise would amount to putting the cart before the horse.
“Mr. President has enough time between his visit to the Olu of Warri last Friday and his promised return February 4, to liaise with the Petroleum Minister and Governor Uduaghan to put proper plans in place for a successful groundbreaking ceremony on February 4.”
